A hugely massive shout out to those who helped me create the most beautiful media cards! I had so many compliments on them and I could not be happier with how they turned out!

The team at TPH Canada was incredible to work with. While tweeting with Brittany about their amazing brand, eco-friendly solutions and really just engaging with one another, to emailing with Cynthia and being incredibly thankful for her super-powers in reprinting after a silly mistake on my part - they are simply the most amazing printing company I have ever had the pleasure in working with. The results were beautiful, and I am so thankful for the compliments that we got on my cards both from brands and bloggers!

Without Lainie's expert eye in photography, the vision that I had for these cards would just not have come to life. In creating a woodland fairy nymph with our model Kassidy, we were able to style her with a fantastic Atutudes tutu, sculpted accessories, pointe shoes, paintings and journals to create a picture of true inspiration. The end result was beautiful and I am eternally grateful for having worked with Lainie on this project.

Lainie also photographed me doing what I do best: painting. I am so thankful for this experience as I've never been able to paint and have someone capture it on film before. It was amazing, to say the least, and the feedback that I got from brands when they saw me doing my thing was awesome!

See you in Chicago!

BlogHer Sponsor Love: Hanlon Lain Photography

I have something incredibly special to share with you, from my photography sponsor Hanlon Lain Photography.

Last week, my mom got married. It was her second wedding, a late-in-life-love after my Dad passed away almost 7 years ago. Lainie captured the most lovely and tender moments!

I just love the vintage vibe to the photographs. The light is so yummy and soft, the details are perfect, and everything turned out so be very dreamy.

I am so proud of my friend, Lainie, who has taken her passion for photography and turned it into her art. What she sees through her lens is truly amazing!

BlogHer Sponsor Love: Hanlon Lain Photography

I had this vision way back in December when Lainie and I first shot with Kassidy of a woodland fairy nymph coming to life out in the woods with my sculpted hair pieces tangled in her crazy hair, really frosty looking makeup, a big fluffy tutu and reading one of my painted journals.

December.

On Thursday evening, my vision came to life and I cannot wait to get the photos from the session. Here is a sneak peek!!
White ruffle peony headband and painted skeleton key journal

Isn't she stunning?? I adore all of the photos that I've seen so far and am so thankful to everyone who helped to pull off this shoot!

One part of BlogHer that is so incredibly important, I’ve learned, are your media cards. These are the cards that you give out to literally every.single.person that you meet at the conference.

How do I want to represent myself as an artist and blogger?

What do I have to show for myself?

How do I want others to see me?

Well…I knew that my very first step was to call on Hanlon Lain Photography and talk photo shoots with Laina.

We started talking inspiration, the message behind Sweet Stella’s, and what I was hoping to gain out of a photo shoot. We talked models, horses {yes…horses}, fields of clover. We talked journals, sculpted wall art, paintings and garlands.

We have a really amazingly beautiful photo shoot planned featuring Kassidy, who modeled masks for me this past January.

It’s going to be inspired by Kassidy’s background in dance, more specifically in ballet and will feature not only my work, but that of Atutudes Handmade Tutus.

Laina is a master behind the lens. I am confident that she will capture the movement not only in a very still piece of art (my journal), but in the surrounding and environment that we are going to shoot in. Her style absolutely shines through in every shoot that she does and I cannot wait to see what comes of our photo shoot for BlogHer!

Mompreneur Monday: Rebecca Nash Photography

I am so excited for today's mompreneur....someone that I actually know in real life, have had the chance to sit down and have coffee with (more than once!) and have gotten to know as a person, a mama, and a mompreneur.

I'd like to introduce you to Rebecca Nash, fine art photographer located in Southwestern Ontario. She has an eye for colour and beauty, and even has her work off to a
very special place...that she'll reveal at the end of the post!

1) What do you do?

I am the owner and photographer for Rebecca Nash Photography. I specialize in Wedding, Portrait and Fine Art photography. I love heading out to work with someone new to create beautiful images that I know will be cherished for years to come. The fine art photography also challenges me but in a completely different way. Instead of building a relationship with my subject in order to create a great portrait or wedding image, I have to create an image that shows or provokes an emotion within viewer through the subject and setting. It’s a completely different challenge and I thrive on this opportunity to change it up.

2) How do you maximize your time as a busy mom running a business?

Prioritize, schedule, and be ready for anything! Finding the balance is always a challenge for me. I make sure to plan out my tasks, have a to do list to keep me on track, and try not to get worked up about schedule changes that seem to always pop up. By having my own dedicated space for my business within our home I’m able to really get focussed on what I’m doing with minimal distractions. I also capitalize on time after my daughter has gone to bed when I’m sitting in front of the TV to go over schedules, to-do lists, and work on blog entries. Blogging at night allows me to get all my ideas out and still have a chance for a quick reread in the morning but also helps empty out my brain a bit before bed.

3) What do you see as your greatest challenge being a MOMpreneur?

For me it’s always about finding the balance. I love my family and my daughter dearly and some days I’d rather stay home and just be a mom and homemaker but in the same breath I am a creative type and I love my photography. It is sometimes the only thing that keeps me sane. Unfortunately I have a habit of swinging from completely family focused to completely immersed in my business without any middle ground. This year my goal is to schedule time for both every week and stick to my schedule!

4) What advice do you have for other moms looking to start a business?

Link

Research, plan, build your support system, and then go for it! It will be a bit of a roller coaster so make sure you set boundaries and talk to your family about what you’re doing so everyone’s on the same page.

So where is your work off to now?

I’m thrilled to be having the opportunity to participate in the MTV Movie Awards Celebrity Gifting Suite and Swag Bags for the upcoming awards show in early June. In honour of this event I’m in the process of designing and creating a line of new products which the celebrities will receive and you can get too! Watch my blog for all the info on the design process and the product launch!

Talk-To-Me Tuesday....with Sarah Sloboda

Good morning everyone!!

I have a special treat for all you mompreneurs and mama bloggers out there! I'd like you to meet Sarah Sloboda, who is a brilliant photographer creates gorgeous heirloom inspired photos and runs fantastic workshops! She's here to help you all make the most with iphoneography! {note: she's seriously making me want an iPhone!}

iPhoneography for Business Owner Moms
by Sarah Sloboda

As a photojournalist-style photographer, I am enamored with real moments in
time. I love photographing kids because they’re so spontaneous! We adults can
learn a lot from their free-spiritedness. I see a lot of moms who want their kids’
hair to be brushed just so, for their clothes to be perfect, and for their smiles to be
practiced. However, none of those things speak to me of childhood. So, I
encourage the kids to giggle, to run, and to explore. Yes, I have to chase them
around a lot. But when they stop and catch their breath, I am ready with my
camera. And, they’re usually beaming.

If you want to take better photos of your family (and set your child up to be more
photogenic for life), think of yourself as a documentarian. Document what you
want, yes. But don’t manipulate. Don’t ask for poses. And, don’t fuss! Let the
kids enjoy themselves, and what you hold dear about this time in your life will
show through in the moments you capture.

The iPhone is an incredible tool for moms and business owners alike. I
recommend you turn the flash off, and pay attention to natural light sources in
the environment you’re shooting in. Make sure to arrange yourself so that light is
falling on your subject. In other words, if you’re facing a lamp and the baby is
silhouetted in between you and it, don’t expect the camera to give you a good
exposure. And, be sure you get low to the ground – you want to be on your
subject’s level.

Plus, the iPhone is something you already take everywhere you go, so using it for
social networking and marketing is a no-brainer. It’s an invaluable tool for giving
your audience that coveted glimpse behind the scenes.

iPhonegraphy tips for documenting your family and business
marketing:

1. Get on Instagram! If you haven’t already, sign up for an Instagram account.
It’s free! Just go to the app store and install. If you want to use it for marketing,
select a username that corresponds with your brand. For instance, my Instagram
name is sloboda.

2. Apply filters to your images before you share them. If you also install other
photography apps, you’ll have a whole bunch of one-click PhotoShop-like settings
at your fingertips. My favorites include Hipstamatic, Snapseed, Camera+, Iris,
and Filterstorm. They range from $1.99 to $5.99, and can seriously enhance just
about any image you take.

3. Mix and match multiple filters from various programs by saving to your photo
library and then opening in a new program. When you’re pleased with your
flashy new picture, open Instagram and click on “share,” to upload.

4. Get tagging! Hashtags are a great way to get followers of similar interests on
Instgram. Use @[username] tags to respond to someone who has commented on
yours or another’s photo. Link your profile to twitter and automatically tweet
your photo (with capture and hashtags – up to 160 characters, of course). To be
really savvy, use twitter tags in Instagram so your intended audience sees your
image.

5. Be yourself. Share your interests, and your day-to-day. Document moments
with your family. Get involved in an activity! Frame your shot and be ready to
snap when natural smiles (and all kinds of expressions) occur.

Sharing photos of genuine moments goes a long way towards communicating
your values to your audience. A picture’s worth a thousand words, right? That’s
like 41 tweets!

Talk-To-Me Tuesday: Photography Studio

I was recently asked by Laina from Hanlon Lain Photography to help design her indoor studio, a lovely space that she is setting up in her gorgeous farmhouse (I'm seriously in love with her home!).

Off I went to Pinterest in search of inspiration, organization and unique ideas to help her make this space her own.

Some of my favourite ideas are

Backdrops hung on the ceiling - a brilliant use of space! You could also do this in a closet to further maximize the space that you have!

I love the colourful thrifted chairs - what great props! The funky wagon is also pretty amazing, and I know my little guy would love something like that! Having a variety of things, in one space, but making them make sense is key!

This is my favourite idea for her space. A rolling bench...a prop in and of itself, doubles as storage, and a client seating area. it can be out in the open, or it can be put in a closet. Genius!

I have some other ideas up my sleeve and I cannot wait to get started on helping her revamp this space, as well as a little nook just outside of it that we can make into a really fabulous client waiting area, consultation area and additional photography space. Window bench, anyone? I think so!

Y3W Friday: {Paper} Faces on Parade

Masquerade!
Every face a different shade.
Masquerade!
Look around -
there's another
mask behind you!

That's right! This week, I was asked by a lovely photographer to create a mask for an upcoming wedding shoot that she has in the fall.

An amazing opportunity for some really awesome, hand painted designs! I've created them out of a satin mask form, painted with high quality and non toxic artist acrylics, them embellished with a variety of powdered glitters, metallic paint, feathers, gems, ribbons and pearls.

Here's a sneak peek of what I've been creating!

~Snow Princess~

~Bubblegum Cutie~

~Black Widow~

~Autumn Goddess~ this is the mask that will be going to the wedding shoot

~Ice Queen~

So...what do you think?! I've got to say, I'm absolutely in love with them!

Masks will come in two styles; Couture and Basic. The Couture masks will be embellished with feathers, gems, glitter, handpainted designs and ribbons. The Basic masks will be handpainted with optional glitter and gems.

They're all so different and wonderful, and I definitely will be doing a GIVEAWAY for a custom Couture Magnificent Mask in a few weeks!

What was your week like? Can you sum it up in three(ish) words?? Link up with my girl Jenni!

What's Next Wednesday: DVD Boxes

I was recently asked by a local photographer if I made boxes for DVD's and CD's, and if I didn't, if I could figure out a way to.

Well, at the time the only boxes that I had made were these

ONEderland Tea Kettles and Cups for Jenni From The Blog

and now, I've developed a product that I absolutely adore...from complete scratch!

Hand stamped bride+groom names, threaded on cotton cord and finished with glass seed beads

Patterned bottoms with a 1" lip

Coordinated inks, cord and papers...all part of the job!

I absolutely love them, and what's even better...the photographer is over the moon about the attention to detail; her business initials in 2" letters, the patterned bottoms, coordinated cord and the seed beads. She loves the bride+groom names stamped and handcut, then threaded onto the cord.

Love love love!

Priced at $8.99, bulk photography orders are welcome and these would be great as wedding favours! Bulk orders qualify for discounts, so let me know if you are interested and we'll collaborate!

Pretty Pictures and Whimsical Weddings

There are two things that I've been focusing on over the past week or so are two categories of new products.

Pretty Pictures - photography props

Whimsical Weddings - cake toppers, favour boxes and cones, fun wedding embellishments

I'd like to unveil a few to you now, namely my new monogrammed cake toppers for weddings (because I think that they are just beautiful, and simple, and elegant, and unique)

Monogrammed with bride and groom's initials

Simple and sweet...I Do...

I have been having a great time just running with my creativity, thinking back to my own wedding and about what I would have done differently.

The other focus, Pretty Pictures, has been alot of fun to create. I've been working with a few photographers on cute sayings, speech bubbles, thought bubbles, even small banners for engagement, maternity, newborn and wedding shoots.

Here are a few of my favourites

For an outdoor cowboy and cowgirl themed shoot

For an engagement shoot

For maternity and newborn shoots

I adore them! Working with photographers has really opened up a whole new world (Queue Aladdin and Jasmine...) of products and creativity that I hadn't thought about before.

Are you a photographer or have a photo shoot coming up with your fiance, baby, husband, kids, parents? Keep Sweet Stella's in mind for your paper props! Everything from hanging decor to be strung from trees to cupcake toppers for a fun and retro picnic! Banners galore in whatever you need them to say...in retro and funky or classic and beautiful bachgrounds.

MOMpreneur Monday: Kelly MacDonald, Photograher

Good morning everyone!

I'm going to try my best to stay on top of blog posts this week, but it's going to be a crazy one! I have a 3-tier cake in the works for an amazing event this coming weekend for Delta Gamma...so please bear with me!

Today, I am so pleased to introduce you to Kelly MacDonald. She is a brilliant photographer that I stumbled upon through Life With Baby and seriously, her work is absolutely breathtaking. As a mom, I have a whole new outlook on photography and definitely appreciate the little moments...the ones where no one is watching. Kelly is just that kind of photographer.

What do you do?

My name is Kelly MacDonald, and I'm a photographer. I photograph newborns, children, families, and couples and I absolutely love my job. I get to spend my days meeting amazing people, sharing once in a lifetime moments and capturing it all with my camera. I've just recently started offering mentoring sessions and feel so privileged to help photographers who are just starting out. It's a tough haul with lots to learn and in such a saturated market, it's incredibly tough to make a name for yourself, so anything I can do to help people out, I'll do it!

Why do you love it?

Why not!? I meet amazing people, have a blast shooting and get to give my client a gift that's treasured and lasts a lifetime. I've always been creative - majored in Fine Arts in University, spent years as a graphic designer but it wasn't until I started photography full-time that I truly became passionate about what I do. There's honestly nothing better. I love creating images that evoke emotion - real smiles, true expressions, tears...anything real and in the moment. And I aim to offer my clients more than just a photo shoot. More than posing and smiling on cue. The couple of hours we spend together is fun, relaxed and a true experience.

What advice do you have for other MOMpreneurs?

Oh, I'm really not the one to be asking that question. I learn as I go and will be the first to tell anyone that it's not easy. Balancing family and work is tough but so worth it if you can manage it. I LOVE being able to spend time with my boys through the week, and although I miss out on some weekend time (esp. in the summer when I'm booked most weekends), I make sure I make up for it through the week. Just do what feels right, family always comes first but when you can find a balance between passion and family...it's perfect!

Wonderful words of advice and encouragement, Kelly!! You truly are an artist behind the lens...a real...honest...wonderful artist!

Now...there are a few promos to mention that are just absolutely amazing!

Kelly and Life With Baby have teamed up, and are offering Mother's Day Mini Shoots on May 1st! There a limited number of spots avilable, and three different packages (Hugs, Kisses and Cuddles) to choose from!

You can check out the details here

And....for anyone who is wishing to have their own amazing experience with Kelly, mention that you found her through Sweet Stella's, and you will receive a $25 discount from your session fee, as well as a complimentary 8x10 print from your session!

You can see more of Kelly's work on her site, and hop on over to facebook to like her page!

Happy Monday!

MOMpreneur Monday

Welcome back!

We've been on vacation for the past week, and we're actually still there but I'm going to whip on every evening to do some posts for you all and next week will really be back into the swing of things.

Even though it's vacation, Stella has been a busy gal creating new products, going paper shopping and checking out local inspiration in the strangest of spots. Shoe stores running rampant with fabulous textures, pools with beautiful hues of crystal blue, skies with interesting contrasts of purples and oranges.

For MOMpreneur Monday this week, I thought I would post a preview of a few MOM's that we'll be featuring!

Shannon Torossi of Twirlie Whirlies

Rosita di Trolio of FreeSpirit Photography

Jenni of Jenni from the Blog

Jenna Beaty of Living Rainwater Tanks

If you'd like to be featured with the above fabulous company, consider these questions:

a) What do you do?
b) Why do you love it?
c) What advice would you give to other MOMpreneur's?
