I can, I can, I can...so (year in review)

When I started thinking about the past year and wanting to do a Year in Review post for New Years Eve, I thought about all of the things that we have experienced and how to sum them up. Last year, I did a month by month photo recap. This year? This year is different.

2013 has left a profound mark on my heart and soul. We have been through the wringer this year, but at the end of the day...I have learned one thing.

I can do anything

I can make it through heartache
I can start a new facet of my business
I can run an amazing charity campaign with my incredible team
I can host a party for BlogHer with my bloggy bff
I can get my work into galleries, and book a solo exhibition for 2014
I can run a 5km...then another...a 6km...and another 5km
I can do Insanity, and actually finish it
I can
I can
I can

Happy 2013. Thank you for being there throughout every step, tear, smile, post.

Cheers to a year gone by, and a new beginnings for 2014.

Memories in a Jar

I've been searching high and low for way to capture the memories from year to year. The blog is great, of course, for those real time moments and achievements like running, but what about the every day little things?

Then I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought it would be great to begin a year of memories at the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve.

All you need is a large jar with a lid, and scrap paper {and a pen, of course}.

Then, simply write down one thing every day for the duration of the year. It can be a memory, something cute or funny that your children did, a photo of a special time or something that you are thankful for. Write the dates on everything so you can be taken back to that exact moment in time.

It's about living in the moment and soaking it all in.

On New Year Eve 2014, pop open the champagne and read your notes.

Happy New Years!!

Making Resolutions

It's a new year...it started today. Have you made your list of resolutions yet?

Each year, I sort of sit back and reflect. What did I accomplish? How do I measure those achievements? What do I want to improve on for the next year?

What did I accomplish?

I was able to get my work into the hands of some really amazing people. Meryl Streep, Tina Fey, Elizabeth Banks, and Keira Knightley {and her amazing stylist, Camilla Pole} just to name a few. As a measure of success, I think that's pretty huge. Being able to create custom works of wearable art, wall sculpture and canvas art was an amazing experience.

I joined an incredibly amazing organization, London Mompreneurs, and met some fantastically driven women who have inspired me to keep pushing myself and the boundaries around me.

I have landed freelancing positions with Manilla and Crave Handmade, and will be bringing some amazing art companies into the fold here this year.

This year, I resolve to stay true to my art and focus more on painting on canvas and honing my sculpting skills.

I resolve to pursue galleries, and to stay determined in have 3 gallery exhibitions per year {my ultimate goal}

I resolve to bring you a home decor how-to, each and every month

I resolve to continue to make happy accidents, pairing colour and trends in unexpected ways, to bring you beautiful works of art that you can't wait to put in your home.

What are YOUR resolutions this year??

Fabulous Finds Friday: New Years Event Party Decor

Christmas and New Years are two of the most fun events to plan for...but things can get a little hectic since they are back-to-back.

This is an easy way to dress up your mantle!! Use a variety of clocks found at a thrift store {or  around your home}, silver garland from the dollar store {that you could actually use all throughout the winter holiday months}, long white taper candles and candle holders spray painted silver and gold!

It really would be lovely any time of year...pastels for Easter, rusty reds for fall, bright summery jewel tones for summer...greens for St. Patrick's day!!

The countdown is on!

New Years Fashion...lace and crystals

New Years is this weekend, and that means getting dressed up in the prettiest cocktail dress that you can find, adding in some sparkle and having the time of your life.

I absolutely adore this look. It's just so incredibly beautiful and perfect for New Years.

The lace is intricate and feminine, and the crystal sash is delicate and adds the perfect amount of sparkle for New Years Eve.

Accessories wise, I think how they have accessorizes it here is perfect. Just enough shine, not too much...

because you can always pair it with a pair of glittery gold platforms, or even mint green peep toes with a bow detail!

Have a safe and very happy New Years Eve this weekend!!

New Years Eve party printable

I saw a sign on Pinterest a little while about about drinking champagne and dancing on tables...it seemed fitting for New Years Eve, so I thought I would make one and share it with you all as a free printable that you can use on your bars at your NYE parties!

Just pop into a silver or gold frame, and place beside the champagne!

Mompreneur Monday: Baily Belle

I had the pleasure a few weeks ago connecting with Vanessa from BailyBelle on Twitter. The lovely Daisy from Pixel&Hank connected us, as we were gushing about crying over Pampers commercials, silly mommy moments and wondering if our hormones would ever be the same again (quick answer: no).

Well!! Vanessa and I quickly started chatting, I looked up her Etsy shop and I'm now the proud owner of this beauty.

Have you ever seen something so unique and beautiful?? I haven't, which is why I snatched it up and got it for my Christmas stocking!!

I wanted Vanessa to be my first Mompreneur featured in 2012 because her vision and creativity just shines in everything that she touches. Truly and simply, she is an artist.

What do you do?

I design and create handmade accessories ranging in materials from fabric, paper, metal and Linkleather. I work in an eclectic manner producing sophisticated and playful pieces for you to enjoy! I run 3 Etsy shops (bailybelle, SoMichelle vintage and The Train Case supplies) with the main shop being bailybelle all while raising my 2 wonderful kids with my amazing husband Lucas.

How do you maximize your time as a busy mom running a business?

Ah the question worth a million dollars! Thankfully I have a great support system of family who help me out a ton, without them I'd be lost. I tend to create when the kids are sleeping or busy playing (my studio is situated so I face our living room and can keep an eye on them).

What do you see as your greatest challenge being a MOMpreneur?

My greatest challenge would have to be balancing my kids education and my work on a daily basis. My kids are small now but my son will be starting kindergarten next fall and as a homeschooling mother things will get tricky! I plan on making a lot of schedules and disciplining myself to stay on task to get everything done.

What advice do you have for other moms looking to start a business?

Take it slow! In the past I had a tendency to jump into things and then realize I was over my head. It's best to take baby steps and learn as much as you can as you grow so you create a balanced business.

Is there anything additional you'd like to share with my readers?

I do have an announcement to make! Yippee!! One of my pieces (my chalkboard necklace) is featured in the January issue of Sacramento Parent magazine! How fun is that and appropriate for your blog?! I will be receiving a copy of the magazine when it's out so I hope to be able to share photos on twitter/facebook and my blog!

I would like to offer a 10% off code to your readers as well so have them enter code SWEETNESS at checkout for 10% off any purchase in January!

What's Next Wednesday: Mardi Gras!

December is fast approaching, which means Mardi Gras balls and New Years Eve plans are getting into full swing!

I've been busy working on some Mardi Gras masks, and I want to share them with you all today! There's still time to order these beauties for your balls and even for your New Years Eve festivities!

All-over red glitter with a black glitter pattern, red and silver paillettes and black netting. Finished with green ribbons, and extra ribbon on one side for a fanciful effect

Arc en Ciel...a rainbow of paillettes on a glittery black background. Capped off with white netting that comes over the left eye and pink ribbons

My absolutely favourite! All over copper with chocolate brown ribbons. Gold, red and copper paillettes create a beautiful focal point, and a fanciful black netting fascinator tie it all together.

Be the belle of the ball this holiday season with a Sweet Stella's mask!
