Setting Intentions in the Fall's my absolute favorite time of the year, and not just because it means that my birthday is around the corner.

Apple cider
Warm socks
Crisp air
Brightly coloured leaves

It means change and the start of something new, all over again. There are cool mornings, warm afternoons and fireflies at night.

This month, set the intention for change.

Imagine the life that you so badly desire. What does it look like? Where are you standing? What are you wearing?

Lead with intention, be open to change, and know that there is a constant flow. The leaves on the summer trees change colors in the fall, so why can't we? Why do we have to stay stuck in the same place, day after day?

The answer is that we don't. But we do because we choose to, or because we are afraid of the alternative.

Be less afraid.
Set the intention for change.

Monthly Intentions...A State of Inner Calm

A big part of being a doula is remaining calm...

being calm for our clients in the event of precipitous or hard labour
being calm for ourselves so as to process the various experiences we have

Being calm is much easier said than done, but we have to set the intention every day and reset ourselves to make it happen.

This month, set out your energy intention to be peaceful. Conduct yourself with a state of inner calm.

This can be achieved through meditation, or simply breathing in the peace, and breathing out the discord. In for the count of 8, out for the count of 8.

Keep it even and balanced and do this for a few minutes, preferably with your eyes closed.

How did you feel after? I'm betting you were able to achieve an inner state of calm!

Living with Intention

I find so often as moms we get wrapped up in who needs to be chauffered where at what time or, in the case of new moms with brand new babes at home, we live in a world of surviving (which is totally fine and a topic for another post this month). We turn on the auto pilot and do to just get by.

What if we changed the conversation and started doing things with intent?

While you might not know where you are headed at all times (I sure don't) you probably have some distinct feeling...a need to be where you are, doing what you're doing.

This is intent.

When we stop moving just to move, doing just to do, thinking just to think, talking just to talk...we live with intent.

Do you know where you are headed? Are you headed there with determination of heart and an open mind?

Monthly Intentions, Grounding Exercise

A meditation that I do a few times a month, at times when I am feeling completely out of place or some inner turmoil bubbles to the surface, is a grounding meditation.

Why is it important to feel grounded?

For me, feeling grounded means that my heart is at ease. There is no fear, no anxious feelings, nothing between me and the earth.

Just the feeling of roots. Roots that have grown from me, my soul, down through my core and anchoring me to my truth.

Fear is one of those things that clouds our judgement, and holds us back from pursuing things that our heart desires.

When I ground myself, the fear seems to melt away, almost as if by magic. I feel a deep sense of relief, and feel that I can truly trust in my in my purpose..and follow my path.

This month, find a way to ground yourself. Whether by meditation, yoga, running, dance...whatever sets your soul free. Do it. Ground yourself.

Trust in your process....follow your purpose.

Letting Go to Become Better #growth

Sometimes, in order to become better and more amazing, you have to let go. You have to shed the layers that weigh you down to give birth to beautiful wings that will make you fly.

This month, I want you to take stock of who and what you are.

Are you happy with what you see?
Do you feel fulfilled when thinking about where you are in your life, on your journey?

If the answer is no, I encourage you to let go of the things that are holding you back. You absolutely will not be able to push through those barriers to become who you truly want to be unless you let go of who you were.

Let go
Go be awesome

Monthly Intentions: Positivity

The first quarter of the year is officially over, and you've probably gotten used to having gratitude for the small things, taking a moment to breath and reflect when you are faced with a chaotic situation, and being mindful of how you are doing things.

This month, I want you to set the intention of positivity

Pretty interesting perspective on things, isn't it? There are so many times, in so many situations along our path, where we are faced with the option of being miserable or being strong. This goes hand in hand with positivity. If we choose to look at a situation with a positive mindset, there is a high likelihood that the outcome will be positive as well.

Be positive
Be strong
Choose positive
Choose strong

March Intentions

Have you harnessed the energy that you got flowing last month by setting intentions? Did you find they were fulfilled? Did your cup runneth over?

Maybe it's time to get back to basics when it comes to setting your intentions for March. Here's a quick and easy exercise to help pave your path.

What I love about this particular intention exercise, is the reminder at the end.

You are loved
You are enough

Once you've marinated on what you are going to give up, what you will embrace, remember to honour the process. Take some time to print out the graphic above. Fill it out and be present with the process of standing up and sharing yourself with those around you.

You are loved
You are enough
