Summer to Fall #Fashion Transition #trends

Take one dress and one bag, then transition it from the warm summer months to the cooler, crisp autumn evenings...what do you get?

Summer to Fall Fashion 2014

Metallics and pastels have been really hot through Spring and Summer 2014, and there's no reason that they can't be appropriate for's all in how to do them, and what you pair them with.

For Fall, pair a pretty champagne dress with floral blocking with a dark denim jacket, suede booties and nude tights. Pretty easy, but definitely gorgeous. Instead of sparkly bangles and pretty rose gold pearl drop earrings, pull your hair up into a messy top knot or side bun, and let the textures of your clothing and the details on your booties do the talking.

Happy Fall!

Upon searching summer to fall on Pinterest, I found some really amazing posts that I want to share with you here!

It seems that the natural transition is to layer up, go matte with makeup and embrace boots.

How do you deal with the transition after months of warm weather? What pieces do you keep, and what pieces do you swap out?

Postnatal Summer Fashion #pregnancy #postnatal

When I had our first son, it was mid June. It wasn't super crazy hot yet, but the warm weather was definitely on its way. I learned very quickly that soft flowy fabrics, a good pair of sandals and simple accessories will become your best friend.

Postnatal Summer Fashion

Dresses were my favorite when I was in that first postnatal phase after having Owen, and they are this time around as well. Look for empire waisted, soft fabrics that don't cling to your tummy. Bonus points if you can find dresses with detail like the ruched neckline of the one above. A little detail can add just enough visual interest to make even the simplest summer dress special.

Gladiator sandals are still my favorite type of footwear for summer, and unless you're dealing with postnatal edema and swelling, they'll likely become yours too.

For accessories, think big floppy beach hat, structured fedora, or open weave cuff and long necklace like the ones pictured above.

Ultimately, you want to be comfortable, but feel human again!

Which Way to the Beach? #accessories

Summer is in full swing, and that means trips to the sun, sand, and surf! But what are the essentials for a trip to the beach this Summer?

Summer Beach Essentials

A good pair of aviators, a crochet cover up and a funky headband are really the only things that you need when you hit the beach. Put them in a hippie chic crochet bag, along with your towel and the only thing missing is the latest issue of In Style and Vogue!

My favorite piece in this collection is the Forever New floral headband. Crowns and headbands like this are huge this season, and this one is only $13 CAD! What an awesome score!

What is in your beach bag this summer?

Don't forget the SPF30!

Summer Skirt Trends for 2014 #trends #fashion #summer

The perfect bottom for summer is a skirt. Maxi, midi, mini...all of them are perfectly appropriate for the warm summer months and have so much possibility to be dressed up or down!

Summer Skirts

For skirts this summer, it's all in the details.

Lace overlays
Crochet hems
Geometric color blocking
Polka dots

Have fun with your skirts this season. Pair them with basic tanks and gladiator sandals for day, or glittery tanks and wedge heels, with lots of layered necklaces.

Hair..think boho beach waves and braids.

Make this summer magical!

Spring to Summer Dresses Collection #fashion

And finally, a collection of sweet dresses that are appropriate for both Spring and Summer.

Spring to Summer Dresses 2014

You know the rules...tights and a light cardigan for Spring, awesome wedge heels and lighter toned accessories for Summer!

My favourite dress from the collection above is the ice blue one on the lower left (Forever New $44). It has such beautiful details on the bodice with the eyelet fabric, and then the skirt is soft, flowy and feminine. For Spring, I would pair it with a charcoal or plum sweater, tights and flats. For Summer, wedge heels and a long side braid or loosely swept hair.

Which one is your favorite?

Spring to Summer Handbag Collection #fashion #accessories

Another challenge that I made for myself on my editorial calendar was to curate a collection of beautiful handbags that would take you from Spring to Summer, with each one being under $50.

Spring to Summer Handbags 2014

These seven handbags are all $50 or less. Certainly ones that will not break the bank, and will get you through Spring and Summer...and special events in the fall.

When looking at handbags for Spring and Summer, look for pastel shades of your favorite color. Love plum? Opt for lilac. Need a bold pop of red? Consider coral! Add in details such as wristlets, buckles, fringe toggles, and zippers and you can instantly and economically update your wardrobe with just one item.

My favorites in the collection are the white wristlet in the centre (Mango, $50) and the two tone tan shopper bag (MG Collection $39).

The white wristlet is appropriate for pretty much every single outfit in your wardrobe from skirts and dresses to shorts and jeans. Great for a wedding, brunch, bridal shower...or just running out or errands!

The two tone tan shopper bag is a great all-year every day bag. I definitely see it as a daytime bag, not for evening, and it's large enough to throw in a travel wipes pack and a diaper in, so you can carry on throughout your errands.

Do you have a go-to bag once the weather warms up?

Easter Fashion for Her

As promised, an Easter outfit for mom. This may not be your typical outfit, but you deserve to feel radiant and special!

Easter Fashion for Mom 2014

There is so much that I love about this outfit. Since our toddler boy outfit featured khaki's, I went with a neutral toned sleeveless dress with lots of texture and detail to compliment. Certainly, Dad could wear navy pants so there isn't too much of this tone in the photos or at Easter brunch, but for Mom, I love it.

The accessories need to be bold with this outfit, so I went with structured knock-em-dead cobalt blue pumps. Seriously...I don't have words for them. They're just pretty.

Charcoal clutch to compliment the grey newsboy cap, and gold tone jewelry since the buckle on the clutch is gold as well. Coordinated and polished!

Holidays are just like any other special event. Wear the pieces that you absolutely love, and don't get to wear often as a mom! Put the yoga pants and leggings away, and get a little glam!

Flirty Spring Fashion for 2014, #ootd

Another beautiful outfit to feature today, that is lively, fresh and full of spring!

Spring Fashion 2014

There are loads of reasons to love this outfit. As I have a thing for dresses once the weather turns warm, I was immediately drawn to this beautiful cream and black striped dress. It's one of the prettiest fit and flare dresses that I have seen around in quite a while!

And, as the Pantone Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid, what better ways to make it even trendier than to pair it with a short orchid cardigan, and a jeweled necklace?

The shoes are an offwhite with a crochet overlay, a texture that is going to be pretty huge this coming Spring and Summer so watch out for it. And the clutch! Oh my goodness, the clutch! A beautiful pop of coral for this outfit certainly makes the entire look stand out!

Spring #fashion Trends #ootd

Expect to see lots of soft feminine florals and cuts this spring!

Spring Fashion 2014

Green dress
$105 -

GUESS by Marciano beige pumps

River Island bracelet
$16 -

I love this combination! The dress is a nod to the cuts of the 50's, but has great detailing with the white nipped collar, and the pattern of the palm leaves. It is feminine and soft, yet unexpected which makes it pretty perfect.

Since the pattern of the fabric is so strong, pair a dress like this with simple nude pumps and a gold bracelet. I chose a bracelet from River Island that has an intricate almost branch like design to compliment the leaves on the dress. At $16, it's a steal!

For the bag, I'm going next to green on the color wheel and opted for a dark plum Michael Kors bag. It also features some gold detailing to compliment the cuff bracelet and nude pumps.

This outfit, in my opinion, would be lovely for a brunch out with your girlfriends, or even a baby shower! Still a little chilly where you are? Add a simple white cardigan, and you're good to go!

Painted Sculpted Fashion Rings on Etsy

I only have two of these little lovelies left, so I thought they deserved their own blogpost.

One thing that I love to create is wearable, one of a kind art. These fashion rings are first sculpted, then handpainted and set onto adjustable bases. I've created them in turquoise and white, yellow and white, and turquoise and cobalt, as well as these two plum rings (above and below)

Being that these are the last two in stock, they are on SALE for $15 plus shipping. Both are handmade, totally unique and one of a kind pieces of wearable art!

Have a different colour combination in mind? They can be made to suit whatever you'd like, whether you have an outfit that you need an accessory for, or a special event that you're going to.

Think I should add them back into rotation in the shop, and create more?? If there's enough interest, I certainly will make a few more and put them back in!

#ootd Year In Review

I have absolutely loved sharing my #ootd {outfit of the day, and dang did it take me forever to figure out why all of these people were posing photos of their outfits and using that hashtag...uhm..duh?!} this past year on Instagram, and thought that I would do a little recap of some of my favourite looks from 2013.

Sept 13, 2013 - black leggings, stone suede peep toe booties, long necklace from Amber Bryce, Mustard top by Kristine Cook Designs
Sept 22, 2013 - cardigan from H&M, tank from Joe Fresh, Old Navy Jeans, American Eagle peep toes

October 2013 - chocolate moto boots for fall

May 2013 - flowy skirt, Joe Fresh tank and hammered cuff by Ostlund Custom Works
So as you can see, I have a thing for bright colors paired with neutrals. Patterns paired with solids.

and shoes. Oh shoes. My fall moto boots from October are definitely my favourites even if the winter months, and look great with all of my colored skinny jeans. And if I can find a cute peep toe, it will come home with me!

What looks were your faves this year? Did you try out any new styles and discover that you loved it?

Casual Winter Fashion for 2013

When I started looking at my editorial calendar and realized that November meant Winter fashion, I went off to Polyvore to create some boards.

Winter in Southwestern Ontario means a mix of warm and cold. We get prepared for mounds of snow, but sometimes, that doesn't happen! I thought that this look was a lovely casual, yet cozy, look that is on trend for Winter!

Casual Winter 2013

The mint top is a great staple for every wardrobe, not just winter, and certainly will carry you through Spring 2014.

Dark washed skinny jeans...hello! Everyone should have these hanging in their closets.

What makes this outfit stand out are the details. The studded boots, perfect for the transition of fall to winter, then winter to spring, are fantastic. Use them again in the Spring with a cute sun dress for a photo shoot!

The cross body back in a plum tone is perfect for a casual day out at the market or book shop. It's a great split complimentary color to the mint, and when paired with the neural but beautiful stacked bracelets, makes a real statement.

What will you be wearing this winter?

Fall Family Photoshoot Fashion 2013

We have been planning a fall family photoshoot with Hanlon Lain Photography for some time now, and admittedly I have been agonizing over the outfits. It seems like it should be easy, but it's really really not!

I had Owen's outfit picked out the moment I saw it. Charcoal grey pants, his every day blue canvas slip ons, and the sweetest red/mint/yellow plaid short sleeved shirt at Target.

But then the big question was...what do there parents wear??

When in doubt, ask your photographer! She suggested jeans and boots, and because I don't tend to wear normal denim's what I've chosen

Dad husband is big on layering so I thought that I would pick up the yellow tone from Owen's shirt and layer that under a charcoal grey sweater that he already has. Then, he can pair it with brown, slightly distressed dress shoes, and the new watch that I got him for our anniversary.

Mom red skinnies paired with a sheer black short sleeved chiffon blouse that I recently found by Joe Fresh (not the exact one in the photo but you get the idea), a yellow scarf (optional...we'll see!), my black wedge mid calf boots and the new necklace that Amber Bryce is creating me.

I can't wait to share the photos with you! We haven't had any family portraits done since Owen turned 1, so it definitely is about time and I'm excited to see how they turn out!

Tribal prints by Kristine Cook Designs

Last month, you saw me wearing some super trendy black and white tribal print designs created Kristine Cook Designs.

This trend is one that I absolutely love. These pieces are amazing statement pieces and when paired with staples from your own wardrobe, like a simple tank or a dark pair of skinny jeans, they really set your outfit apart from everyone else out there.

Kristine created these pieces out of a lightweight bamboo and I loved the feel of the fabric against my skin. it was light and airy, but the jacket in particular was great for touring around Chicago on the cool nights, and for battling the air conditioning on the airplane on the way home from BlogHer'13.

Have you incorporated black and white tribal prints into you wardrobe?

Black and White Tribal Print Shorts? Yes please!

The black and white tribal print trends are still taking centre stage in fashion and when they are paired with skinny pants or jeans, or shorts, they're absolutely amazing.

These shorts on are nothing short of incredible

Pair them with falls hot colors of rich red, navy, bold emerald and eggplant and you have a stunning afternoon outfit that will easily translate into our last few warm summer nights. Accent them with lace, like int the photo above, or some layered necklaces and a chunky cuff bracelet.

Really, you can't go wrong!

Kristine Cook Designs...color blocking at its best!

One of my absolute favourite dresses from all of the pieces that Kristine Cook Designs created for me this year fro BlogHer'13 was my color block dress.

I went to her with the idea of using some of the really trendy Pantone colors of 2013, Mykonos Blue and Emerald, to do a funky color block dress.

This is what she created

I absolutely love how it accentuated my tiny little waist and how Kristine tied everything together with the wide stretchy black belt, which mirrored the styling of the hem, sleeves and neck.

When we got to the hemline, I actually asked Kristine to raise it a little...then a little more. I feel so stinking sexy and this dress really made me embrace my new body shape and every curve that I have.

On the back is an exposed zipper, and I think it adds such a funky flair to the already striking design!

How do you rock the color blocking trend?

Fashionista Friday: Kristine Cook Designs custom maxi dress

A few months ago, I asked London, Ontario fashion designer Kristine Cook if she could design and create for me a maxi dress that would be flowing....flattering...and in my proportions.

You see, I am 5'2" which means that a lot of those cute maxi dresses out there on the market just do not fit and are always hit my body at the wrong spot.

What she designed was amazing, and I am thrilled to show it to you today.

From the first sketch, to the completion of the dress, I was in love. It fit, it flowed and it was flattering.

This is going to be my day look for the Saturday at BlogHer'13. It's so super comfy, yet incredibly girly and I really feel as though it showcases who I am as an artist, a blogger and a woman all in one piece. Paired with silver and white gladiator sandals, my aluminum Ron Ostlund Jr. hammered cuff bracelet and a sparkly silver boho headband from Alice in Bloom and it is absolutely perfect!
