Doula Bag Tour: Phone Chargers

Seems like a no brainer, right? Sure, but it's something that can easily be forgotten when rushing out the door at 2am to meet you at the hospital!

And it's not just that we pack a charger block and cord for our own phone. We often pack an additional block and some of us have portable energy sources (ie: Mophie chargers) that we slip, fully charged, into our bags.

It's just one of those things that we know if it's not in the bag, it will get forgotten and when you are rushing to the hospital or calling the midwife, you aren't thinking how much battery power does my phone have?

This way, whoever needs a charge, has access to one when we are there.

It also means that we are able to play podcasts for you if that is your wish, can look up information for you while walking the halls with you, even send messages out for you if you need or want to keep friends and family updated of your progress or arrival of the baby (with your phone of course, which it charges on our Mophie!)

Phone chargers. Super important to pack, often forgotten on your rush to the hospital, but always in our doula bag!

February Self Care Challenge Checkin #selfcare

Even though February is a short month, I do hope that you were able to work in a few minutes for self care, especially since it is the month so closely associated with romance and love.

How did you love yourself this month? Your challenge was to look in the mirror and for five minutes, appreciate every wrinkle, line, and flaw.

With every line, there is a story. I have a scar on my neck from a cyst that needed to be removed when I was in high school. I remember, fondly, that my Dad got a real kick out of moving the light for our doctor and paraded around all day saying he assisted with my surgery.

I have a scar over my eye from pulling on my dogs whiskers when I was three
I have stretch marks on my belly from carrying three precious babes
I have stretch marks on my hips and arms from weight loss
I have lines on my forehead from worry and stress

But they are all mine and they tell my story, and for that...I love them.

Do you love yours?

Lactation Boosting Fresh Juice Recipe

Last fall, I was supporting an amazing mama duo with their breastfeeding efforts, and when I found out that they enjoy freshly pressed juice, I started doing my homework on lactation boosting fruits and vegetables, then employed my experience in juicing during pregnancy to come up with some awesome combinations.

3 beets
1 large bunch of spinach
5 apples
2 pears
1 lemon
1 small fennel bulb

Before you begin, a word of caution. This recipe makes a lot of juice. I'm talking about 30oz. of juice, so be prepared with a pitcher that you can pour the juice from your juicer into.

Alternate fennel, apple, spinach, beets, beet greens, pear, lemon and finish everything off with two apples.

Store in a tightly sealed pitcher in the fridge for 24-48 hours (72 hours at the absolute maximum). As this is as fresh as juice can get with no preservatives, it can go bad quickly.

In terms of breastfeeding support and lactation boosting ingredients, there is goodness in each and every one of the fruits and vegetables in this juice recipe, however the most impactful is the fennel and the beets. The apples and lemon balance out all of the strong flavors.

Serve cold over ice!

Self Care Checkin

Hey mama!

Stressed with the hustle and bustle of the holidays? Too many parties to attend, dinners to go to, one that you're hosting, and on top of all of that....kiddos that are on winter break and are anticipating Christmas morning?

Time for a self care checkin!

If you are feeling stressed out to the max, you probably haven't taken five minutes just for yourself this month. Instead of letting the hustle and bustle consume you, treat yourself!

Manicure
Pedicure
Body Scrub
Coffee date with a friend
Bubble Bath (bonus points if you're sipping a glass of wine while you have a bath!)

Anything that gets you to focus on yourself for a few minutes is perfect at this time of year. I also like to tuck something under the tree for myself. I know that probably sounds selfish, but sometimes there is a book that I really would like to read on the holidays, or a new lip color that I want to try...things that I know my husband likely won't think to put in my stocking or under the tree, so I treat myself to them.

Take a time out mama, you've worked hard to get prepared for the holidays!

November Doula Special

Follow your heart and let it be your arrow on your path. That's what I did, and it lead me to the beautiful experience of becoming a doula. Starting this month, I will be announcing a monthly special on doula services.

Each month  brings something new. It might be a discount on services, or a special self care package for mom. Either way, it will be something fantastic that you won't want to miss out on!
